Lockey

Lockey (often sold as Lockey Digital / LockeyUSA™) is a keyless-entry lock brand best known for fully mechanical push-button combination locks for doors and gates—the classic “no keys, no batteries, no wiring” approach that’s popular for shared access, staff entrances, rental properties, and perimeter gates.

The brand story gets told slightly differently depending on region, but the consistent thread is this: Lockey was one of the earliest “mechanical digital” (push-button) keyless lock systems, with many trade listings calling it first introduced in 1970 and popularised with the rallying cry “Change the code, not the lock!”

What Lockey is known for (in the real world)

  • Mechanical keyless locks (spring latch and deadbolt-style), designed to be code changeable without needing power.

  • Gate/perimeter hardware in the same ecosystem (LockeyUSA’s range is often presented alongside gate hardware like hydraulic closers and panic hardware).

UK vs North America branding / distribution

  • In the UK, Lockey Digital is distributed by Total Product Sales Ltd, which says it was established in 1982 and founded by John Fenton, and that the Lockey Digital locks are invented and manufactured in Japan and distributed in the UK/worldwide since 1982.

  • In North America, LockeyUSA™ describes itself as the Lockey brand’s North American business; one LockeyUSA page notes that Doug Hill obtained exclusive North American import rights and founded LockeyUSA in 2001

  • LockeyUSA was later acquired: Nationwide Industries acquired LockeyUSA (announcement dated 25 Feb 2021), folding the brand into a broader gate-hardware portfolio.
