GU

GU (short for Gretsch-Unitas) is a German, family-run window and door technology group best known in the trade for multipoint locking, door & window hardware, and automatic entrance systems. The company’s headquarters are in Ditzingen, Germany, and it positions itself around integrated “systems” for windows, doors and façades rather than single standalone products. 

The GU Group manufactures and sells across several well-known brands, most notably:

  • GU – architectural hardware and systems for windows/doors/façades

  • BKS – locking technology (cylinders, locks, locking systems)

  • FERCO – hardware, especially prominent in the window/door fabrication world 

In many markets (including the UK), GU is a staple name for uPVC/aluminium door locks and window hardware, plus higher-spec commercial solutions like escape route hardware and mechatronic locking, depending on the sub-brand and product line. 

History-wise, multiple sources place GU’s origins in 1907 in the Stuttgart area, and the company has since grown into a global group with many production/sales companies across dozens of countries.
