Eff Eff
effeff (often written EFF EFF) is a German electromechanical door-hardware brand best known for basically inventing the modern electric strike—the little powered latch mechanism that lets a door be released by a button, intercom, or access-control system without replacing the mechanical lock.
-
Origins: effeff began in 1936 as a precision/electrical engineering workshop in Germany (founded by Fritz Fuss).
-
Big invention: ASSA ABLOY’s own materials state that electric strikes were invented and patented by effeff in 1947, which is why “effeff strike” is almost a generic term in some trade conversations.
-
What they make: a full electromechanical range including electric strikes, electric bolts/dropbolts, security locks and related escape route / egress components—designed to bridge mechanical locking with access-control systems.
Ownership / group: effeff is part of ASSA ABLOY (ASSA ABLOY announced the acquisition of German effeff Fritz Fuss KGaA in 1999).
Signature product DNA (why installers like them):
-
Wide strike selection for different door types and install situations (“appropriate strike for every installation location” is literally their pitch).
-
Lots of practical installer features on popular models—e.g., adjustable keep designs and system-friendly variants like the 118E family.
Our range includes a selection of Eff Eff electric strikes (mortice releases) designed to provide reliable, high-quality electronic access control for various door types. These versatile solutions integrate seamlessly with intercoms, digital keypads, and access control systems.
The collection covers a variety of security levels and door requirements:
- Standard & UPVC Options: The low-to-medium duty 14 & 34 Series offers dependable everyday performance, while the 17 Series is specifically engineered for UPVC door applications.
- Adjustable Jaws: For easier installation and a precise fit, the 75 Series features an adjustable jaw alongside its continuously rated, low-to-medium duty design.
- Heavy-Duty Security: For demanding environments, the monitored 76 Series Penta Mortice Release delivers heavy-duty performance with dual-voltage capability and field-selectable fail-locked or fail-unlocked operation.
