ABUS E90 Re-design for tougher 2014 TS007 3 star Tests

The all new ABUS E90 Anti snap euro cylinder.

UPDATE 20th January 2015! Abus are one of the first manufacturers to have their 3 star cylinder re-tested under the new 2014 / 2015 system from BSi for TS007 3 Star approval.

The current E90 design has not passed the test, any current stocks in the UK can be sold with the old 2012 3 star rating, but Abus have to re-design to a Mk2 version to gain the new standard.

The original review is below dated 28th Feb 2014 when we first had the new lock in our hands.

Launching in a couple of weeks with the full range being available from late April in the UK, we have the latest British Standard TS007 3 star approved euro cylinder - also available in thumb turn and half euro versions.

As yet we have not seen a Secure by Design approval and the Sold Secure testing team have not yet been asked to test / rate this unit.

The price point for these will be approx £30 > £36 inc vat each so it sits under the ABS and Mul t lock prices - however there are a few features which could make it less appealing.

Things we like: Looks well designed, time will tell ! Lower price, safety clutch (allows keys to be used in both sides at the same time)

Things we don't like: Open profile keys - anyone can copy them without your knowledge, they are unable to be 'keyed alike' so your locks all work off one key (a major benefit of the ABS and Mul T Lock cylinders). However they may be available in keyed alike pairs IE two of the same size only from May onwards.

ABUS may not be a well known name or brand to the general public however they have been manufacturing padlocks and cylinders for many many years - and they have a good name within the lock industry, Abus are a very large global player so don't worry about any guarantee issues.
